Here are the list of all the 49 TV channels listed to be shutdown by the NCA.
The National Communication Authority (NCA) said it is going to shut down 49 television stations in the country. In a press release the authority said the move forms part of a continuous monitoring exercise conducted on various Satellite Free-to-Air Television platforms using the Broadcast Monitoring System (BMS) and the Radio Spectrum Monitoring System (RSMS).
It also said that these affected channels are operating without valid licenses contrary to Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act 775 of 2008.
The process which has begun will affect channels including Ice TV, Chief TV, Virgin TV, Thunder TV, Maranatha TV, Kwaku Bonsam and Obuor TV among others.
The statement issued by the NCA said the exercise is being done in conjunction with the Ghana Police Service and National Security Intelligence Operatives.
“The monitoring revealed that some channels were operating without valid Authorisations, contrary to Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act 775 of 2008, which states that, ‘Except as provided by this Act or any other law not inconsistent with this Act, a person shall not operate a broadcasting system or provide a broadcasting service without a frequency authorisation by the Authority’,” the release said.
It noted that its monitoring will continue as a way of ensuring efficient use of the country’s broadcasting system,“We also take the opportunity to caution all Licence and Authorisation holders to ensure that their Licences and Authorisations are always up-to-date and in compliance with the stated terms and conditions,” the NCA added.
Meanwhile the National Communication Authority (NCA) has already shutdown Thunder TV and Ice1 TV while arresting Nana Agradaa.
Nana Agradaa, traditionalist, known for her moneymaking ritual, ‘sika gari’, was arrested on Tuesday night by a joint team of Police and National Security Intelligence Operatives, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority.
