Update: National Teaching Council gives information on license and registration number.
The National Teaching Council (NTC) has given a new directives to assist teachers within the Ghana Education Service (GES) as well as those in the private institutions amid the teacher license and registration number.
According to the Council, they have already prepopulated some basic information about all GES staff on the portal.
However they had advised all participants to ensure that their names on the portal tallies with what is on their individual professional certificate.
INFORMATION ON NTC REGISTRATION
1. Those who have registered already and gotten 100% are not included in the present registration. Most teachers in this group have been given their new Registered Numbers via SMS.
2. Those who registered but could not acquired the 100% must go back to the portal and complete the process. They will receive new Registration Numbers after the process has been completed.
3. Non professionals will be registered after the current exercise is done and they shall be issued with a temporary license.
4. The necessary data on those recruited after August 2018 is being worked on. These persons can log in from Monday, April 19, to update their information.
5. Finally, those who have passed the GTLE but are not yet employed can also register from Monday onwards. These persons are however required to pay GH¢200.00 for the full license.
SUMMARY OF THE MAIN LETTER
The National Teaching Council (NTC) has launched the official teacher license and registration number to all eligible teachers in the Ghana Education Service. The initiative is said to begin in May this year.
In view of this directive, a letter from the Ghana Education Service to all regulatory bodies in the education sector directs that, “As part of the process, all qualified teachers who were employed before 1 September 2018, are required to log on to the NTC’s Teacher Portal Ghana (TPG) via tpg.ntc.gov.gh and register”.
Meanwhile the deadline for this registration as on the portal is May 7, 2021.
That notwithstanding, all teachers employed after August 31, 2018 are required to pass the teacher licensure exams before they would be eligible for the license and registration number.
“Thus their provisional license shall be replaced with a full license during the exercise,” the letter stated.
“all teachers who were employed after 31 August 2018, are required to pass the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination to merit the licence and registration number,” it added.
According to the National Teaching Council, this new license is to replace the provisional one which was given earlier.
“Thus, their provisional licence shall be replaced with a full licence during the exercise”.
“All qualified teachers who fail to avail themselves of this licensing and registration exercise shall lose their right to practise as teachers in Ghana, in accordance with section 64 (1) of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020, Act 1023,” the letter indicated.
WHO IS A QUALIFIED TEACHER?
The letter also described the character of one who is to be called a professional teacher.
”For the avoidance of doubt, qualified teachers are teachers who have been trained and certified as teachers by accredited colleges and universities that train teachers,” it stated.
