Bill and Melinda Gates are ending their marriage after 27 years, the pair announced in a statement on their verified Twitter accounts.
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” the statement reads.

The couple founded their philanthropic organization, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, together in 2000. Since then, the foundation has spent $53.8 billion on a wide range of initiatives related to global health, poverty alleviation and more, according to its website.
“We have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” the statement says.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives.”

Why the divorce?
The statement said the couple believes they cannot grow together in the next phase of their lives.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives,” the statement said.

Who filed for divorce?

Melinda Gates filed a petition for divorce in King County, Washington, on Monday, asking a judge to dissolve the marriage based on the couple’s separation contract. No financial details were included in the publicly available documents.
Bill Gates is one of the richest people in the world. His net worth was $137 billion as of February, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index ranking.

How did they meet?

Bill, 65, and Melinda Gates, 56, met at Microsoft — which Bill Gates founded and was, at the time, running as CEO. She started as a product manager as the only woman in the first class of MBA graduates to join the company, and eventually rose through the ranks to become general manager of information products.

Bill and Melinda

They met shortly after she joined the company in 1987, at a business dinner in New York.
She described the encounter in her book, “The Moment of Lift:” “I showed up late, and all the tables were filled except one, which still had two empty chairs side by side. I sat in one of them. A few minutes later, Bill arrived and sat in the other.”

The couple married in Hawaii in 1994.
Over the past year, the Gates, through their foundation, have been involved in the fight against Covid-19 and the effort to develop treatments and vaccines, and equitably distribute them around the world. As of December, the group had committed a total of $1.75 billion to the global pandemic response.

In March 2020, Bill Gates stepped down from the boards of Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway to “dedicate more time to his philanthropic priorities,” including work to tackle climate change.

Melinda Gates is also the founder of investment firm Pivotal Ventures, which confirmed the couple’s separation.

“We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life,” the pair said in their statement Monday.

Ghana is not facing any power fluctuations.

The current intermittent power fluctuations propelled the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a schedule for some parts of the Greater Accra Region. The schedule was put into effect on May 1, 2021.

The popular name for this power crises in Ghana is termed “Dumsor”, this name was however more popular during former President John Mahama’s administration.

Meanwhile the country has being facing some power outages in the few months and it is obvious for Ghanaians to employ the use of “Dumsor” relative to the current situation.

Mr. Frederick Opare-Ansah, fomer member of parliament for Suhum Constituency, has described the current electricity outages as Dum-Yɛ and not Dumsor.

In his exegesis, he believes that the government of Akufo-Addo had been able to solved the economic challenges in the power sector and this he says is the foundation of the victory over power fluctuations.

“When the New Patriotic Party assumed office, the dumsor we inherited was as a result of systemic financial challenges and economic crisis,” he stated.

In his submission he had reiterate Ghanaians not to call the current situation “dumsor” but Dum-Yɛ. He claimed that the VRA, GRIDCO, ECG and other stakeholders are currently upgrading their systems and undertaking some maintenance on their system and that has largely contributed to the current power outages and when the process is done, everything will become normal.

“we need to endure for the short while in accordance with timelines given by authorities to as a matter of urgency end the menace once and for all,” he further stated.

Despite everything, one thing is obvious —that the country is facing power crises which doesn’t seem ending now but we keep on hearing assurances from authorities that all shall past soon. It looks like the citizens are frustrated and anxious about the whole happenings and craving for better exegesis.

We’ll give workers their due remuneration if elected” — is this an early campaign?

“We’ll give workers their due remuneration if elected” — is this an early campaign?

The two big political parties in Ghana are seen campaigning heavily during election periods.

The biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) has promised to offer better conditions of service to workers if voted into power amid the 2024 general election.

The statement released by the party has sparked a lot of anticipations. It could be that the NDC has realised some deformities in the conditions of service for workers under the ruling government and their biggest rivals, the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

A statement from the NDC given on May Day on May 1, 2021, has declared such intension of the party ahead of the 2024 general election.

“…NDC are proud of our relationship with workers and we do hereby encourage them to stand tall in their unflinching loyalty to the cause of Ghana. The NDC further assures all workers that a future NDC government will commit to a much better handling of the economy and award them their due remuneration in recognition of their sterling role in lifting high the flag of Ghana,” it stated.

Meanwhile teachers and other government employees had pushed for salary increment as the start of the year 2021 began but there hasn’t been any positive feedback.

“This is a non-negotiable assurance that we owe to workers in order to maintain their faith in the choice they have made to serve this nation for both the present and future generations,” the statement added.

Meanwhile the ruling government ascribe the retrograded financial status to the impending Coronavirus pandemic. A lot of business were collapsed due to the pandemic and this has put a lot of pressure on the country’s economy and for that matter I wish the citizens will understand the condition and bare wity the President on his effort to curbing the economic crises currently facing the country.

Below is the full statement from the NDC signed by the general Secretary Hon. Johnson Asiedu-Nketiah;

“On the ocassion of May Day 2021, the National Democratic Congress salutes all workers of Ghana. The NDC, as a Social Democratic party, solidarizes with the aspirations of the teeming workers of the country upon whose tireless labour the nation thrives.

In the face of the abject hopelessness generated by the appalling incompetence of the Akufo-Addo government, and compounded by the devastating onslaught of the Covid-19 pandemic, the NDC urges workers to continue to commit themselves to their work and the nation in order to lubricate the wheels of progress and development.

For it is their sweat and toil that stabilize the nation even as the people of Ghana continue to endure the scandal-ridden Akufo-Addo government.

We in the NDC are proud of our relationship with workers and we do hereby encourage them to stand tall in their unflinching loyalty to the cause of Ghana.

The NDC further assures all workers that a future NDC government will commit to a much better handling of the economy and award them their due remuneration in recognition of their sterling role in lifting high the flag of Ghana. This is a non-negotiable assurance that we owe to workers in order to maintain their faith in the choice they have made to serve this nation for both the present and future generations.

For their uncountable contributions to Ghana, their commitment and dedication to duty, for their love for and

loyalty to Ghana, we hail all the workers of Ghana.

LONG LIVE THE WORKERS OF GHANA!

LONG LIVE THE NDC!

LONG LIVE GHANA!!!

Strike action is probably the language embarked on when an individual, group of people or an institution in general when there is any uncertainty in administration.

In Ghana , we see a lot of government workers going on strike —mostly teachers, nurses, police among others but it is quite rare to here that workers of Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) embark on strike.

That notwithstanding, ECG workers are to embark on a two-hour sit-down strike today, Monday, April 26, 2021, across the country.

A statement was released from the Authorities to all units of the sector’s working force that they should all observe the strike action. Meanwhile it is said to commence around 8:00am to 10:00am thereabout.

The reason for the strike action was clarified by the release as reiterating their stance on the removal the removal of the current Managing Director of the company over what they describe as “incompetence” on his part.

“A clear example is the award of contracts of some Six (6) substations where the recommendations of the evaluation committee were sidestepped and awarded to other companies,” the Junior and Senior Staff Union said in a statement.

“The Union decries the alarming rate at which the company’s technical and commercial losses are galloping. A conservative estimate puts the current system loss figure at over 34% as of February 2021, and there are no concrete strategies in place to bring them down in the short and medium-term,” an except from the statement.

They said that the MD’s continuous stay at post will collapse the electricity distribution company;

“…he is grossly deficient when it comes to matters relating to administrative and corporate governance”.

Meanwhile no guidelines has being currently given on what uses of power(electricity) are to do as the strike action is being undertaking.

However Ghanaians are to hope that nothing goes wrong with the electricity transmission and services as they embark on their due strike action.

Meanwhile the current fluctuations in the supply of the power is another thing Ghanaians are battling with currently although the authorities said the situation shouldn’t be deemed as the term describes, ‘DUMSOR’.
